Jean
Pierre Lemoine was born in 1952 and raised in Marseille, France. Like
Marius in the movie of the same name, his father was a sea captain
with the only merchant ship allowed to dock in the "Vieux Port"
of Marseille, "Le Camarguais."
Lemoine
achieved a Masters degree in Agribusiness from the "Institut
National Agronomique" in Paris, class of 72.
His
first job was as a disc jockey in a Normandy casino, during the
summer of 1975, but was subsequently fired because he played the
"revolutionary" music of Serge Gainsbourg. He became
a production assistant at Radio France in 1976 and 1977; covered
Special Events like the 1977 Tour de France. In 1978, Lemoine became
manager of the electoral campaign of Jean-Marie Benoist vs. George
Marchais, head of the French communist Party.
Lemoine
left for the United States in 1978 to work on assignment for Food
and Wines from France, a governmental agency with offices in New
York and San Francisco.
He
created
and developed the subsidiary of a group of Cotes du Rhone wine producers,
"Cellier des Dauphins" from 1979 through 1981.
Lemoine
managed
the production department of "Compagnie Fruitiere" in
Marseille, France in 1982 and 1983; Later, he managed a pineapple
farm in the Ivory Coast, a vineyard in Provence, a tomato farm in
Spain, and a sugarcane plantation in Guadeloupe.
He
returned to the U.S. in 1984 to develop a subsidiary of "F. Chauvenet,"
a top Burgundy wine producer and developed a network of distributors
throughout the USA for fine Bourgognes until 1989.
Since
1990, Lemoine has been General Manager and co-owner of Tinamou Enterprises,
a Premium French wine and Vintage Port importer, wholesaler and
mail order retailer throughout the USA. Tinamou specializes in high
end Bordeaux, Burgundies , and Vintage Ports. The company caters
to a wide selection of customers, including top restaurants, resorts
and casinos in Hawaii, California, Nevada.
Tinamou
was one of the first wine companies to offer a functional Website
on the Internet in 1994. Since 2006, Jean-Pierre has taken a leave of absence from the daily duties of the company and lives in the South of France.
Jean Pierre has been a daily BKS Iyengar Yoga practitioner since 1985. His hobbies include music,
